European Athletics (EAA) - News - Records expected to be set in Albufeira
With the entries now closed for the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Albufeira, Portugal, it can be confirmed that several records are likely to be set on Sunday.
There have been 515 entries - 305 men and 210 women, including reserves - from 33 of European Athletics’ Member Federations, which will equal the highest number of nations represented at the Championships.
There were 33 Member Federations present at the 2008 SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Brussels two years ago.
It is almost certain that there will be a record number of runners in the under 23 men’s event with 110 entries from 27 countries, easily surpassing the previous best of 85 runners in Brussels even when reserves are taken out of the equation.

There will also be close to record numbers in the other five races, which has lead to optimism that the overall number of 468 runners at the 2006 and 2008 SPAR European Cross Country Championships will be surpassed on Sunday.
