STEWART PRAISES BRIT DISTANCE RUNNERS FOR EURO CROSS SUCCESSES - By David Martin

Pallant and Taschimowitz scored their U23 1-2 with Corinna Harrer of Germany third. Great Britain were victorious from the German\'s and Portugal in the team competition.

Velenje - UK Athletics endurance head coach Ian Stewart praised the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team after every member of the squad collected medals at the European Cross Country Championships in Velenje on Sunday.
 
The all conquering British men and women dominating the meeting in Slovenia deservedly celebrated after winning six gold, five silver and a bronze medal in the individual and team competitions.
 
“Everyone’s won a medal and it’s the best result we’ve ever had," said Stewart. "The senior men were just fantastic fighting for that silver in the last race.

 
"I’m so proud of everyone, we’ve come such a long way in such a short time and I’m absolutely over the moon - it’s just brilliant for British endurance running."
 
Emelia Gorecka and Emma Pallant won their junior and Under 23 age group races while there were team triumphs from the junior men and the women's senior, U23 and junior contingents.
 
Silver medals fell to Richard Goodman still a junior next year and James Wilkinson plus Naomi Taschimowtiz in their U23 categories along with the men's senior and U23 sides, while Gemma Steel was third in the senior women's race.
 
Belgium's Atelaw Bekele a former Ethiopian, won the senior men's title ahead of Ayad Lamdassem of Spain with Jose Rocha of Portugal third. Ukrainian Sergiy Lebid chasing a 10th title failed to finish. France took team honours from the Brits and Spain.
 
Frenchman  Florian Carvalho triumphed in the U23 race from Wilkinson with and Norway´s Sondre Nordstad Moen who led Norway to the podium top spot from Great Britain and France.
 
Ilgizar Safiullin won the junior men's category from Goodman with the winner's fellow Russian Vladimir Nikitin third. Great Britain took team honours from Russia and France.
There was a fantastic victory for Ireland's Fionnuala Britton ahead of pre-race favourite Dulce Felix of Portugal and Steel who led her team mates to a fourth success to thwart Portugal and Germany.

Gorecka started the British medal charge in the morning with her junior success from Romania's Ioana Doaga and Amela Terzic of Serbia. The Briton led her side to a win from Russia and Germany.
