"A World Athletics Championships in London would also see so many fans travelling to the Championships from Europe which would provide an unrivalled atmosphere.”
Edwin Moses one of the All-Time greats of global athletics has thrown his weight behind the British bid to host the 2017 IAAF World Championships.
Moses a double 400 metres hurdles Olympic and World champion who during his fantastic career scored 122 consecutive victories, a winning streak which lasted nine years, nine months and nine days, has become an ambassador for London to stage the Championships.
“I first ran in London more than 30 years ago and every time I’m here I am always impressed by the fans. There is a great culture of the sport in this country and the spectators really respect athletics and the athletes," said the former American superstar.
"A World Athletics Championships in London would also see so many fans travelling to the Championships from Europe which would provide an unrivalled atmosphere.”
Moses who first competed in England in 1978 joins an impressive list of international stars supporting London’s bid including Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie the world's greatest ever distance runner, the USA's high jump world champion Jesse Williams and Brazil's Fabiana Murer winner of the pole vault title in Daegu last month.
