Suhr Named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of American record holders and a men’s mile named after one of the most significant figures in the corporate history of Nike highlight competition in the distances and throws this Saturday at the USA Track & Field Classic in Fayetteville, Arkansas.


American record holder Jillian Camarena-Williams will compete in the women’s shot put while American record holder Galen Rupp goes after another AR, this time in the men’s 2 mile, in Fayetteville.

With a field full of sub-four-minute milers, the Geoff Hollister men’s mile will honor the memory of Hollister, the third employee of Nike, founder of the Athletics West track club and key figure in grassroots running efforts who died Monday after a long battle with cancer.

Held at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Center, the USA Track & Field Classic is the third stop on USATF’s 2012 Indoor Visa Championship Series. The meet will be televised on ESPN2 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, February 12. Continue reading the full release HERE.


Suhr Named USATF Athlete of the Week


INDIANAPOLIS - Jenn Suhr has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after setting an indoor American record in the pole vault of 4.88m/16-0 to win the event at Saturday’s New Balance Grand Prix in Boston.

After failing to clear a height in the women’s pole vault last weekend at the U.S. Open, Suhr returned to the second stop on USATF’s Indoor Visa Championship Series in Boston with avengence. USATF Foundation awards Elite AThlete Development Grants to 20 athletes


INDIANAPOLIS - The USA Track & Field Foundation has presented Elite Athlete Development Grants to twenty athletes, Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld announced today.

Athletes receiving $3500 grants include first time grantees Ben Bruce (3000 meter steeplechase, Crystal Manning (triple jump), Tori Polk (long jump), Jeffrey Porter (110 meter hurdles), Amanda Smock (triple jump), Christine Spence (400 meter hurdles) and Blessing Ufodiama (triple jump).

Repeat grantees receiving $3500 grants include Jim Dilling (high jump), Brianna Glenn (long jump), Jon Ryan Harlan (decathlon), Becky Holliday (pole vault), Mark Hollis (pole vault), Yvette Lewis (100 meter hurdles/triple jump), Melinda Owen (pole vault), Jacob Pauli (pole vault), Mary Saxer (pole vault), Alice Schmidt (800/1500 meters), Jamaal Torrance (400 meters), Bettie Wade (heptathlon) and Tiffany Williams (400 meter hurdles).
