PEARSON FIGHTING TO BE FIT FOR NEW YEAR CAMPAIGN AFTER QUAD INJURY - By David Martin
World 100 metres hurdles gold medallist Sally Pearson is determined to be fit to start her New Year's campaign after picking up an injury in a low key meet at the weekend.
Pearson competing in a low key sprint race in Traralgon, Victoria, suffered a quadriceps injury later described as a "mild strain" by her coach Sharon Hannan.
The Australian star who last month was voted "Women's Athlete of the Year" in a poll held by the International Association of Athletics Federations, had in the week before the meet put in very intensive training sessions.
Coach Hannan revealed that Pearson who is determined to improve upon the silver medal she won at the last Olympic Games when London plays host to the 2012 edition, had felt some tightness during the her work outs, but nothing to cause concern.
Now the 25-year-old who slowed down with 50m of the race remaining and had an MRI on Monday is receiving treatment and hoping to be fit to compete at the Brisbane Track Classic on January 14.
