THE ARTIFACT OF THE MONTH
"The Artifact of the Month" VII. - Museum Rarities from the Berlin Sports Museum – AIMS Marathon Museum of Running - Victah Sailer and his donation. Horst Milde Reports
If you read the articles on the German Road Races pages, then you have undoubtedly seen the name Victah Sailer quite often - along side the copyright info for the photos for many of the articles. Victah is a well-known photographer of athletics, especially for the sport of running. At all of the major international athletics events, whether in London, Boston, Chicago, Berlin - or just recently in Frankfurt and next weekend in New York City - Victah is there (out in the front) - on the back of a motorcycle, where he shoots his photos.

From the perspective of my activities with the museum, the year 2011 started off in a surprising and delightful way. On Sunday, January 2, 2011, I received an email saying: "You can have all of my scrapbooks, trophies, gear, etc. for the AIMS Marathon Museum of Running! Do you want to come pick it all up with a truck, or should I bring it by!?"

Wim Verhoorn from the Netherlands is a big name in the international running world. He was race director of the Twente Marathon for years, and he provided the ideas behind numerous other race events. At the same time, he was a trainer for the association, coaching numerous athletes. This meant that his range of influence reached well beyond Europe, as he attended both large and small running events in Asia, South America, the USA and Africa, and he knew and was known by everyone.

This section “Artefact of the Month” actually should have been dedicated to Dr. David Martin numerous times already. He has come to Berlin three times from Atlanta, Georgia with 80 – 100 kg of luggage – so much that it could hardly be carried – and the contents were always meant for the Berlin Sports Museum - AIMS Marathon Museum of Running.
